Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer- The Review
Firstly, I'm gonna review the ME3 Multiplayer. I really enjoy it, not gonna lie! I'm a pretty antisocial gamer, I think Mass Effect is the only non-music based game in my collection that is multiplayer. I'm normally that noob who gets in everyone else's way, so spends ages getting really good and then gets mega annoyed with noobs who get in your way (hypocrite I know). I did really enjoy Star Wars: The Old Republic's beta, but at the end of the day, I'm a student not a drug lord, and hence can't afford the subscription fees :P
The multiplayer itself plays quite well, I've heard of glitches but haven't really experienced any myself (do feel free to correct me though!), and after discovering that playing as an Adept I can make Biotic Explosions, I love running around on Silver (can't do Gold unless I'm an Infiltrator so I can go run and hide) killing Atlas's and Banshees and Brutes by myself :D Banshees however, are the new "Chainsaw Man of Resident Evil 4" or "One Winged Angel", as in, as soon as you hear a SHRIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK you proceed to shit yourself and run around the battlefield with no hope like an idiot.
I have to say, my least favourite classes are the Engineer and the Soldier. The Soldier class just seems obsolete to be honest. You can build the other classes so they can take the good weapons into battle with minimal weight penalty, and still have the advantage of powers (Biotic Explosions and Tech Bursts ftw!). My favourite classes to play have to be the Adept, Sentinel and Vanguard (what can I say, I like biotics! SPACE MAGIC!).
Speaking of classes, I should probably explain the system. There are 6 classes to choose from; Adept, Soldier, Sentinel, Engineer, Infiltrator and Vanguard. Each class is then split into 4 races, which have different combinations of powers from the single player game. For example, a Human Adept has Shockwave, Singularity and Warp- whereas a Drell Adept has Reave, Pull and Cluster Grenade.
Characters can be colour customised, and you pick which points you want to put where, but beyond that the customisation is pretty sparce. You can pick weapon loadout etc. but can't change facial features on the alien species, and all the human avatars wear helmets. And, if you're like me and spend hours upon hours in character creators, then this is a bad thing. Still, I have my imagination I suppose! Also good is the fact that Humans have male and female avatars with the same powers! The days of gender discrimination are over for all those girl gamers out there!
Playable species are: Human (all classes), Asari (Adept & Vanguard), Drell (Adept & Vanguard), Krogan (Soldier & Sentinel), Turian (Soldier & Sentinel), Quarian Female (Engineer & Infiltrator) and Salarian (Engineer & Infiltrator)
Past Free DLC Packs
If you haven't downloaded these already, you really should. They're FREE FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! Everybody knows that if it's free you take it. DUH!
The first of these packs is the Resurgence Pack. This adds two new maps (Firebase Condor and Firebase Hydra), three new weapons (Striker Assault Rifle, Kishock Harpoon Gun and Geth Plasma SMG), four new consumables (Strength Enhancer, Targeting VI, Stabilization Module and Shield Power Cells) and six new characters (Asari Justicar, Krogan Battlemaster, Batarian Soldier, Batarian Sentinel, Geth Infiltrator and Geth Engineer)
An interesting thing to note about the Geth (although I haven't experienced this myself as I haven't unlocked them) is that they have a hive mind, being machines and all, and APPARENTLY this comes across in the Multiplayer!
The next pack is the Rebellion Pack. Again this adds two maps (Firebase Goddess and Firebase Jade), three new weapons (Cerberus Harrier, Reegar Carbine, Kryase Sniper Rifle), a new game mode in which you have to retrieve a high priority package and deliver it pack to a pick-up point (it's essentially a one-sided game of Capture the Flag), a new equipment slot called a "Gear Slot" which doesn't run out like the consumable items, and six more characters (Vorcha Soldier, Vorcha Sentinel, Quarian Male Engineer, Quarian Female Infiltrator, Phoenix Adept and Phoenix Vanguard). The Phoenix characters mentioned here aren't some new elusive species, they're Ex-Cerberus biotics from Project Phoenix, hence the name!
Mass Effect Multiplayer: Earth Pack
The Earth Pack will be released on July 17th on PS3 in North America, and Xbox 360 & PC worldwide, and on July 18th on PS3 in Europe. This will feature three new maps (Firebase Rio, Firebase Vancouver and Firebase London), three new weapons (Piranha Assault Shotgun, Acolyte Pistol, Typhoon Assault Rifle), a new game mode which involves escorting a high priority target to an extraction point, six new characters (N7 Destroyer, N7 Paladin, N7 Demolisher, N7 Slayer, N7 Shadow and N7 Fury), and a new "Platinum" game difficulty for those of you (weirdos) who didn't think Gold was hard enough (SERIOUSLY?!). And although these characters are all Human, they do play differently to the regular human characters and the Phoenix characters from the Rebellion DLC, and to be honest, they look rather interesting. In the image below, I see one character looks a bit like a Quarian, one looks a bit like a Phantom and another has a Shadow-Brokeresque shield!
Anyway, this time I really am going, no more blogging for me tonight! I leave you with this:
